Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)

"The Museum of Modern Art has the foremost collection of twentieth-century art in the world.  From an initial gift of eight prints and one drawing, the Museum’s collection has grown to include more than 100,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, architectural models and drawings, and design objects.  MoMA also owns some 14,000 films and four million film stills, as well as more than 200,000 books, artist books, and periodicals, all part of the Museum’s library.

Since its beginning in 1929, The Museum of Modern Art has been dedicated to helping people understand and enjoy the visual arts of our time.  Alfred H. Barr, Jr., the Museum’s co-founder and first director, intended the Museum to provide New York with 'the greatest museum of modern art in the world.'"

In midtown Manhattan, MoMA is in the process of expanding and redesigning the Museum, which will become a major new destination for New York City and the world when it reopens in late 2004/early 2005 in conjunction with MoMA’s 75th anniversary year.  The Museum of Modern Art is designed by acclaimed architect Yoshio Taniguchi, well known in Japan and worldwide for his beautiful designs."
