Department of German at NYU

The Department of German at NYU offers a comprehensive program in modern German language and literary studies from the 18th century to the present.

The faculty is internationally recognized and dedicated to creating diverse programs of study for students with the aim of enriching their understanding of German texts and cultures and with helping them to pursue interdisciplinary research, including study abroad opportunities.

While open to a large variety of critical perspectives, the department specializes in theoretically inflected analysis of German literature, technology, cultural history and media such as film, painting and photography.

The department works closely with Deutsches Haus which hosts important contemporary poets and writers from German speaking countries.
