Friedrich Ebert Foundation

"The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) is a private, non-profit organization committed to the principles and values of social democracy. FES was established in 1925 to honor the legacy of Friedrich Ebert, Germany's first democratically elected President. Today, the Foundation supports education, research, and international cooperation from its Headoffice in Bonn and Berlin and through branch offices in more than 90 countries and activities in more than 100 countries. In view of Ebert’s mandate to promote international understanding, FES puts a strong emphasis on development work – through direct interaction in developing countries as well as multilateral fora. In this context, FES opened a UN-Liaison office in New York in the mid-1980s. The objective of this office is to foster close working relations between FES, its field offices and its partner-groups, on one side, and the United Nations system and the Bretton Woods Institutions (World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund), on the other side. Our activities are designed to serve partners in and from countries of the South in order to improve the participation of various stakeholders in dialogues and decision-making processes in multilateral organizations."
