The Perils of Specialization

Wednesday, December 2, 2015, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Insights from the new book: The Silo Effect - The Peril of Expertise and the Promise of Breaking Down Barriers; by award-winning columnist and journalist Gillian Tett, U.S. Managing Editor of the Financial Times.

In Gillian Tett's new book THE SILO EFFECT the author examines the structural development of institutions like the Bank of England in London, Cleveland Clinic hospital in Ohio, UBS bank in Switzerland or Facebook in San Francisco.

Some of these examples show how foolishly people can behave when they are mastered by silos. Others, however, show how institutions and individuals can master their silos instead. While the world is increasingly interlinked in some senses, it remains profoundly fragmented in others.
