Tino Sehgal

Friday, January 29, 2010 - Wednesday, March 10, 2010

The solo exhibition by the German-British artist Tino Sehgal (b. 1976) features two works adapted and expanded by the artist to fill the unique spiraling architecture of the building. Known for his live, "constructed situations," London-born, Berlin-based Sehgal will create a special mise-en-scène in the museum that will engage spectatorship and encourage viewer participation.

Tino Sehgal  is the youngest artist to present a solo exhibition in the Guggenheim rotunda.  His works are produced in this way elicits a different kind of viewer: a visitor is no longer only a passive spectator, but one who bears a responsibility to shape and at times to even contribute to the actual realization of the piece.

Tino Sehgal is a British-German artist based in Berlin.  He was born in London but grew up mostly in Düsseldorf and Paris; he studied political economy and dance in Berlin and Essen and began to work as an artist in 2000.
