Manhattan Moments: Geschichten aus New York
Thursday, February 11, 2010, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
The international correspondent Eva Schweitzer will read from her work. The English vesion will be read by Barbara "Belladonna" Foste.
"Manhattan Moments" features life in Manhattan — mostly on Times Square and in Hell's Kitchen — in a series of funny short stories. It spotlights the semi-fictional adventures of the author and a half dozen of her friends during the course of a year that begins with the aftermath of 9-11, covers New York's major holidays — Chinese New Year, St. Patrick's Day, Yom Kippur, and Halloween — and ends with Barack Obama's election.
Throughout the book, we meet liberal drinkers who fall in love with the NRA, and summer guests performing hobby surgery in Coney Island, learn how to turn lobster into kosher food, that Spiderman is afraid of spiders, and how to build a skyscraper, and experience why solidarity causes weight gain. It's Manhattan as you never seen it before.
